
Dr. Jeffrey
Sandborg has directed the Roanoke College Choir since 1985
and in that time
the ensemble’s reputation has become
widely respected. For thirteen years Sandborg was director of the
Roanoke Valley Choral Society (later the Roanoke Symphony Chorus).
His conducting credits of major choral/orchestral works with the
Roanoke Symphony Orchestra include Verdi’s Requiem,
Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, and Handel’s Messiah.
He also has led the Roanoke Valley Choral Society and Orchestra
in performances of
Vaughan Williams’ Hodie, Bach’s Mass
in B Minor, Kokkonen’s
and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiems.
Sandborg remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, and
choral scholar. His instructional video, focusing on the fundamentals
of
singing, Make a Joyful and Beautiful Noise!, has been
used as a teaching resource throughout North America and abroad.
He is the author
of English Ways: Interviews with English Choral Conductors (Hinshaw:
hinshawmusic.com).
Dr. Sandborg
holds the B.A. from Knox College (Illinois), the M.M. in Voice
and the D.M.A. in Choral Conducting and Literature
from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
